Brixton had three fencers at the Cadet and Junior European Championships in Maribor.
Laura Sheffield fenced in the Cadet Womens Epee. She had a tough time in the individual finishing 85th but helped the team to an impressive 11th place.
In Junior Men's Epee Tommy Curran Jones and Aml Sinclair achieved 20th and 38th respectively. They built on these strong individual results in the team, first beating the host nation Slovenia and then knocking out the higher ranked Italy in a nail biting 45-44 L16. In the Last 8 they faced Romania and fell behind early on. In the last bout Britain were 38-34 down but Curran Jones pulled out an impressive 11-2 win to clinch the fight and a place in the semi finals. They faced the favourites Hungary and were unable to overcome this strong team. In the Bronze medal match they fenced against the Israeli team, which contained the newly crowned European Champion, and despite some great fencing all round lost 44-42.
A very encouraging performance, especially for the two younger fencers and we hope they can do even better at the World Championships next month.
