Congratulations to Tommy Curran Jones, Harry Peck and Dan McGlade who fenced for England in the Junior Commonwealth Games in South Africa this Wednesday.
The trio all fenced well in the poules with Harry ranked first, Dan fifth and Tommy sixth after the ranking. To reach the final they faced fencers from India, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. All continued their early form and reached the last 8. Dan, suffering from a glute injury, lost a close fight to New Zealand's best fencer. Tommy and Harry battled through to the final, Harry overcoming the home crowd to win his semi-final 15-14 against a South African.
This set up an all England final. Harry and Tommy have been fencing each other in competitions for nearly ten years so the final was a tense affair with Tommy emerging the winner.
We are all immensely proud of the boy's magnificent performance and wish them the best of luck in the team competition on Friday.
