A huge congratulations to Laura Sheffield who continued a fantastic season with a Silver Medal at the Cadet Commonwealth Games in Cape Town, South Africa this weekend.
Laura fenced magnificently all day and lost in an incredibly close final. We wish her the best of luck for what is sure to be a great next season.
I am afraid that we have been asked to cancel this weeks training sessions – Brixton Recreation Centre is being used as a polling station.
We apologise for this interruption in our fencing, and we will make up the sessions later in the year.
As many of you know Sara has been fencing at Brixton since she was an U11 and She has been volunteering with the younger fencers on Mondays for over a year.
Sara will leave at the end of this term, to spend a year volunteering as a teacher in a rural school in Ghana.
She needs to raise funds for the charity ProjectTrust, to cover the cost of her placement in Africa.
Donations of any size are warmly welcome at www.virginmoneygiving.com/SaraSanchezLethem
Huge thanks to those who have already donated and we wish Sara the best of luck on this very noble trip!
Brixton will not be open on the upcoming May bank holiday.
This Saturday saw another hugely successful Leon Paul Junior Series be hosted by Brixton Fencing Club. Young fencers from across the country came to Whitgift School to compete. Age groups ranged from U9 - U15 with fencers as young as six taking part. The competition ran smoothly from start to finish, a great time being had by all. It was a pleasure to see such high quality fencing from such young fencers. Future world champions in the making.
Congratulations to all those who took part, especially our medal winners.
Congratulations to the Brixton senior epee team who won the national championships this Sunday. Facing a strong field, the team showed their courage and experience throughout. They beat the previous year's winning team in the Last 8 and then won a close fought final to win gold. Well done to Paul, Dan, Tommy, Harry, and Kamil. This is Brixton's second Senior medal in two years and hopefully the start of a long tradition.

A brilliant result for Laura Sheffield in the international U15 competition, Challenge Wratislava.
Brixton fencers have been taking part in this competition, which takes place in Wroclaw, Poland, for 10 years now and this is the first Gold at the competition for the club.
This is just the latest in a series of excellent results for Laura and we wish her the best of luck with the best of the season, particularly at the upcoming World Championships.
